SOLAR THERMAL WATER HEATING

Cost affective, affordable renewable technology, available for domestic and commercial applications. The technology that allows you effectively collect and utilise the energy radiated by the sun to provide your hot water.

Solar thermal radiation is transformed into useful heat using solar collectors, the heat is then used to heat the stored water in your cylinder.

Solar energy is free, clean and safe. it is environmentally friendly as it produces no waste or pollution.
Using solar energy allows you to reduce your carbon footprint while lowering your energy bills.

HEAT PUMPS

GROUND-SOURCE

The earth stores an enormous amount of solar energy, ground source heat pumps extract this freely available energy to provide low cost, low carbon, high efficient heating and hot water.

To extract the energy the heat pump uses collectors buried in the earth, either horizontally if there is sufficient ground space available or from a borehole, giving high levels of year round efficient heating irrespective of seasonal variations in air temperature.

AIR TO WATER

Even cold air is full of energy and air source heat pumps use this energy to provide heating and hot water in temperatures as low as -25 degrees Celsius.

Because the energy source 'the air' is abundantly available air source heat pumps have the added advantage of requiring minimal space and lower cost installation, making them ideal for new build or retro fit where space is limited.

Also termed as ‘heat pump boilers’ many manufacturers are now producing products specifically for this market – products such as the Mitsubishi Ecodan.

These products can now be considered as a genuine alternative or replacement for a gas or oil fired boiler and have many benefits over them, such as reduced running costs, maintenance and emissions.

The boiler unit is placed outside – with access to the ‘air source’ – and is connected straight into the heating system and hot water cylinder, replacing the indoor boiler, so saving space inside. Although originally aimed at new builds with under-floor heating, the new products can, with correct design, be retro-fitted into existing systems and work with the existing radiator circuits.

Some radiators may need to changed to provide sufficient heat output but JD Lane would be able to advise on this at the quotation stage. Replacement of the hot water cylinder might also be recommended. Other recommendations would be for good loft and cavity wall insulation, and double glazing. JD Lane is an Approved Ecodan Installer and can provide expert advice, design and installation services for this product.
