J.D. Lane and Sons have years of experience working with old, period and historic property with care and attention to detail.

Period properties, old buildings and structures require a very careful approach to maintain their integrity.

Every old structure has its own special characteristics and fabric that is important to respect and maintain wherever possible.

All too often buildings become victims of a poor or incorrect survey and method of work that is not only detrimental to the building but also the clients budget with unnecessary work being carried out using incorrect methods, materials or all three.

Good workmanship and a well thought-out project can also have a positive effect on the saleability, value and appeal of a property or structure.

At J.D. Lane we believe that the only way to ensure a successful end result with this type of work is to get the initial survey and plan of action absolutely correct before any work at all is started.

This may simply require a visual inspection and photos taken or property may need a hands on invasive survey to ensure all defects and the original materials / methods are identified.

A well thought-out, realistic schedule of works can then be made to provide clear direction to a project and identify the costs involved from the outset. A clear list of works can also prove invaluable when  conservation officer agreement is required.
